Alastair Campbell was branded ‘sour’ by angry Good Morning Britain viewers over his reaction to England reaching the Euro 2020 final.
Millions bit their nails at home on Wednesday night, with plenty of others in fan zones and pubs, as England took on Denmark at Wembley in the semi final.
The Danes went ahead in the first half from a Mikkel Damsgaard free kick before an own goal put England before the break.
The score stayed at 1-1 after 90 minutes before the Three Lions were awarded a penalty in the first half of extra time.
Captain Harry Kane stepped up to take it and, after seeing his spot kick saved by Kasper Schmichael, pounced on the rebound to score the winner.
The goal sent the whole country into overdrive but one person not in celebratory mood was GMB guest host Alastair.
The former spin doctor has returned to the ITV show this week and, talking about last night’s match, said: ‘Not the best penalty (Kane’s) ever taken,” with Susanna Reid replying: ‘You don’t even think it should have been a penalty!’
‘Well it wasn’t a penalty!’ Alastair told her, adding: “Come on, be fair. Let’s be objective about this, it wasn’t a penalty.”
While a few people would be inclined to agree with him, Alastair’s attempts to rain on England supporters’ parade didn’t go down well with fans watching at home.
Swiftly turning off GMB, one Twitter user posted: “10 mins of watching @GMB this morning and I confirmed what I already knew @campbellclaret ….ALASTAIR CAMPBELL IS A MISERABLE G*T. I have very few followers so no one will see this but I feel better for putting it out there.”
Another posted: “Could not have picked a more negative “Anchor” man to have on after the fantastic England win!!… why Alastair Campbell… really taking the enjoyment out of such an amazing day and result”
