The close-up image of the man’s crotch was published earlier yesterday in a fleet, a temporary tweet that disappears after 24 hours and which cannot be shared, replied to publicly or embedded on to other pages.

Earlier he tweeted: ‘I’ve been hacked sorry everyone! Jeez’. He later told his more than 62,000 followers: ‘So sorry I dont (sic) know what fleets is – Never heard of it!’

The Twitter feature Fleets rolled out last year is similar to Snapchat, Instagram Stories and WhatsApp’s ‘disappearing messages’, giving users the option to create posts that later automatically vanish.

Fleets from a person’s account appear along the top of their timeline, much like Stories along the top of Instagram’s landing page.

Mr Jones was suspended from the BBC in October 2017 following claims of alleged inappropriate behaviour from a reported female colleague.

At the time, the Songs Of Praise presenter admitted pursuing ‘juvenile’ behaviour but denied inappropriate contact and apologised for any ‘hurt’ caused. He was allowed back on the broadcaster a few months later.

The former choirboy, received an MBE in 2013 for his services to music and broadcasting. He became a radio presenter after signing up with Classic FM in 2002 and went on to present a Sunday morning show for the BBC.

The BBC has been approached for comment.
