Their This Morning duties  have been given to show contributor Alison Hammond, 45, and former X Factor host Dermot O’Leary, 47.

Now BBC execs hope to snap up Eamonn and Ruth when they aren’t doing This Morning cover for hosts Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby.

A telly source said: “Eamonn and Ruth have a huge fanbase and are very experienced.

“They can easily carry any number of shows, so producers at the Beeb are considering handing them a format to front.”
