T’Nia Miller has discussed the difficulties of working on hit sci-fi show Doctor Who.
Currently starring in Netflix’s new horror The Haunting of Bly Manor, she played the regenerated version of the Time Lord known as the General opposite Peter Capaldi’s Doctor in ‘Hell Bent’.
“Oof. That was a hard job,” she revealed. “You get half an hour for lunch and it takes 15 minutes from the studio to the trailer. Then they have to take you out of your costume. Well, they had to take me out of my costume.”
Laughing, T’Nia went on: “So you’re dying for a piss, and you can’t. Good job I’ve got bladder control!
“And then you get five minutes to eat because you’ve got to be back on set again. It was a whirlwind.”
Still, T’Nia’s Doctor Who experience was something she says she’ll always remember.
“I mean, I grew up with Doctor Who,” she explained. “It was ground-breaking because it was the first time we’d seen another Time Lord metamorphosise into another person – you know, as the Doctor does – and she was going to be female. She was going to be a Black female. So that was super-exciting for me.”
She added: “It was great to see a Dalek. They’re massive things! The way the art department crafts this landscape out of hoover wires and gaffer and Sellotape and papier-mâché – you’re like, ‘You guys are incredible!’
“Yeah, it was fun. And I worked with Peter – he was a gentleman. He was such a gent.”
Doctor Who airs on BBC One in the UK and BBC America in the US, and will return for a festive special.
