Many people are desperate to know whether they will be allowed back to their local hairdresser, gym or pub when lockdown ends.
It will delight them to hear that the Treasury is now reportedly pushing for gyms and beauty businesses to reopen on December 2 when England’s shutdown is lifted.
Though this has not yet been confirmed.
Boris Johnson discussed which restrictions to impose after lockdown with his cabinet today, before revealing the Government’s “Covid winter plan” in Parliament tomorrow, according to reports.
“Non-essential” services were shuttered on November 5, sparking fears they would not reopen until next year.
However, there is now hope they will resume business from December 2 as the Government implements a three-tier system of restrictions.
Will pubs and restaurants reopen?
Pubs and restaurants are expected to reopen when lockdown ends on December 2, although a curfew is likely to be reintroduced.
Nothing has yet been confirmed.
It is widely reported the Prime Minister will say that, while last orders must be called at 10pm, people will get an extra hour to finish their food and drinks with opening hours to be extended until 11pm.
Chancellor Rishi Sunak said that the Government will review the 10pm curfew for pubs and restaurants – which was in place before national restrictions were reintroduced.
He told the BBC’s Andrew Marr: “It’s definitely something that we’re looking at and I think, as I said, one of the things that we’ve been able to do as we’ve learned is get data, see what works and see where we can improve things.
“As we’ve learnt more, there’s opportunities for us to look and refine things, and that is one of the things on our list.”
Can I finally get my hair cut?
Ministers are said to be keen for beauty businesses to reopen on December 2, although nothing has been confirmed.
A source told the Daily Mail: “Businesses such as gyms, beauty salons are dying to open and have made themselves Covid safe.
“People want to get their nails done before Christmas – it’s a huge season for these businesses.”
Backbench Tory MPs have slammed the Government for treating gyms and the beauty industry as an “afterthought”.
When can I workout at the gym?
Gyms are expected to reopen in all areas on December 3, according to the Daily Telegraph.
People will likely have to follow the same strict rules as before lockdown when they go for a workout.
The Telegraph reports that gym-goers will likely have to book a workout time to limit numbers in facilities.
It also states class sizes will probably be reduced, equipment will be spaced out and sanitising facilities will be readily available.
