The Queen and Prince of Wales have been dragged into the Duchess of Sussex’s privacy case after she claimed to have consulted senior members of the royal family before writing a letter admonishing her father.

Meghan said that she wanted to follow protocol to prevent her father causing further “embarrassment to the Institution”.

The insight into the usually highly confidential affairs of the royal family was provided in the duchess’s legal claim for damages for breach of copyright and privacy. She is suing Associated Newspapers, publisher of The Mail on Sunday and Mail Online, for alleged misuse of private information, copyright infringement and breach of the Data Protection Act for reproducing parts of the letter.
