Emmerdale spoilers follow.

It’s been a really worrying time for Emmerdale’s Nate Robinson as he and Tracy Metcalfe have been preparing for him to get a long prison sentence.

The couple are expecting a baby together, but because Nate (Jurell Carter) falsely took the blame for the hit and run accident that nearly killed Moira Dingle, they were preparing for him not to be there for the baby’s birth and beyond.

In Friday’s (November 20) episode, Nate and Tracy (Amy Walsh) headed off to court for Nate’s sentencing hearing and Tracy admitted to him that she felt sick. She said it wasn’t a pregnancy symptom, but because of the thought she might have to leave court without him.

Later, Tracy turned up at the Dingle’s house, seemingly alone, where Cain and Sam were looking after Belle following her mental health crisis the day before.

She told the group that Nate was given a two-year sentence, but then he walked in and revealed the sentence was suspended, which was a huge relief for the couple.

“I really thought they were going to send me down,” he said.

“I’ve still got a criminal record. They’ve given me an 80-hour community order and they’ve suspended me from driving for six months.”

Tracy actress Amy Walsh recently told Digital Spy and others that her character didn’t realise just how scared Nate was until he broke down and admitted that he was struggling with the thought of going to prison.

“Tracy doesn’t realise how frightened Nate is until this specific moment where he breaks down to her. She thinks he’s just trying to impress Cain and be the big man, but then suddenly, there’s a chink in his armour and she realises he’s absolutely petrified,” she said.

“He says: ‘It’s me that’s not going to be here to see my baby, how do you think that makes me feel?’ It’s the first time she thinks of it like that. When someone is being brave and strong, sometimes you need to dig a little bit deeper to see how they really feel.”

Emmerdale airs weeknights at 7pm on ITV, with an extra episode at 8pm on Thursdays.
