The young actress went on to thank fans for their messages of love and support, saying that their reaction “means the world” to her.
“Can I just say – thank you for all the love and support I’ve received after making my sexuality aware on my socials,” Matilda added. “I really wasn’t expecting it and it means the absolute world, you guys are amazing. I love you all.”
Matilda, who left Coronation Street in 2020, also opened up about her reasons for leaving the ITV soap, explaining that she wanted the opportunity to work on other projects.
Summer Spellman’s recasting was announced back in October of last year, with Harriet Bibby taking over the role.
At the time, Matilda paid tribute to her “second family” on Corrie, including the cast, crew, and viewers who had all supported her during her time on the cobbles.
“After three and a half lovely years I felt it was time for a change and I’m excited to be starting that next chapter with a new role,” she said in a statement.
Coronation Street airs Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 7.30pm next week on ITV.
