There was excitement as Strictly’s professional dancers found out which celebs they had been partnered with for the 2020 series on Saturday night.

For Gorka Marquez the moment was long-awaited after he missed out on having a celebrity dance partner last year, so he was thrilled to be paired with EastEnders star Maisie Smith on the BBC dance contest.

Talented Maisie, who plays Tiffany Butcher in the BBC One soap, has been showing off her impressive dance moves during lockdown on TikTok.

So fans soon tipped the 19-year-old actress as a favourite to lift the Glitterball when she was announced for the 18th series line-up.

And cheering them onto the dancefloor is Gemma Atkinson, who found love with Gorka after they met during the 2017 series.

She was partnered with Aljaz Skorjanec on the show and Gorka danced with singer Alexandra Burke.

Hits Radio presenter and former Emmerdale star Gemma, 35, who has a daughter Mia with the Spanish dancer, is tipping the pair for the top of the leaderboard.

“10! 10! 10!” the Bury actress exclaimed on Instagram as Gorka, 30, announced the pairing.

He wrote: “A-MEISE-G !!!!!

“So excited to be dancing with this talented girl. We already having a blast in the rehearsal studio and I can’t wait for you guys to see our first dance.”

“Awesome partnership! You got it guys,” said former Emmerdale and Hollyoaks star Anthony Quinlan.

And fans reckon they could go on to win the show.

“This is going to be amazing. Get ready to hold that glitter ball xxx” said one follower.

“Winners!” exclaimed another.

“Winning partnership,” said another fan.

“I reckon you can win this,” another told him.

And another commented after they danced together for the first time in a group routine during the launch show: “You two are going to win this! She looks like a pro dancer already.”

This year, because of the coronavirus pandemic, either the professional dancer or the celebrity will be living on their own for the duration of the series as they form a support bubble.

Gemma, from Bury, recently shared a video of the doting dad with Mia, who turned one in July, as they were reunited saying: “Been so lovely having him home, even for just a few weeks.”

The BBC has explained that it is ‘doing everything possible’ to protect the cast, crew and audience during the filming of Strictly Come Dancing 2020.

Show bosses explained: “To make it more manageable during these unprecedented times, we have a smaller crew, fewer episodes and less couples.

“We are using many creative solutions as well as recognised measures to be able to bring Strictly to your screens, including: isolation, testing, working from home when possible, increased cleaning, sanitizing, bubbles and cohorts.

“We are following the current Government advice, industry and BBC specific guidelines and are constantly reviewing and adapting our plans whenever needed.”
