Gina Carano has said she wasn’t comparing Republicans living in the US to Jewish people during the Holocaust in the controversial social media post she shared earlier this month.

Carano was dropped from Star Wars spin-off show The Mandalorian after sharing a post that read: “Jews were beaten in the streets, not by Nazi soldiers but by their neighbours… even by children.

“Because history is edited, most people today don’t realise that to get to the point where Nazi soldiers could easily round up thousands of Jews, the government first made their own neighbours hate them simply for being Jews.

“How is that any different from hating someone for their political views?”

But in an interview with Ben Shapiro about the incident, she said she had been ‘inspired by the gentle spirit of the Jewish people going through that time’.

She added: “When I posted that it wasn’t something that I felt was controversial.

“It was something that I thought, well, maybe all of us need to ask ourselves how that happened.”

She went on to say: “I’ve got every single big publication saying she’s comparing conservatives and Republicans to this and that’s not really what I was doing…

“I have love for everyone, I’m not a hateful person.”

She told Shaprio: “I’ve been through so much, and I’ve seen so much now, clearly, of the bullying that’s been taking place, and I saw it before.

“I’m not the only one that’s ever been bullied by this company, and I know that so deeply.

“I could share a story which would turn things around in the media but I can’t because it would sell out a friend… Everyone is afraid of losing their job.”

Her original post led to a huge backlash, with many people calling for her to be removed from the show.

In response, Lucasfilm said she’d been dropped from The Mandalorian and branded the post ‘abhorrent’.

In a statement, Lucasfilm said: “Gina Carano is not currently employed by Lucasfilm and there are no plans for her to be in the future.

“Nevertheless, her social media posts denigrating people based on their cultural and religious identities are abhorrent and unacceptable.”

She’s signed up with Shapiro’s media outlet The Daily Wire and says it’s a ‘dream come true’.
