If you ever need video evidence of how much of an advancement PlayStation 5 is over the current-gen PlayStation 4, just check out the clip we’ve embedded below. Courtesy of Game Informer’s coverage, we’ve got a good look at the load times of Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales on PS5. Or, rather, the complete lack of them when transitioning from a hideout to the open world. And when that’s compared to the load screens of PS4’s Marvel’s Spider-Man, the result is really something to behold.
As you can see, Spidey’s 2018 adventure on PS4 takes roughly 18 seconds to load into the open world. Meanwhile, Miles Morales on PS5 is a single second transition that doesn’t break gameplay and even kickstarts a phone call with a friend. It’s easy to forget how often these lengthy load screens popped up as we look back at the best titles of the generation through rose-tinted glasses. This comparison once again proves that the PS5 SSD is a big game-changer.
