Election star Jessica Campbell has died aged 38.
The actor – who starred as Tammy Metzler in the 1999 comedy – died in Portland unexpectedly on 29 December, her family confirmed to TMZ.
A cause of death is yet to be determined, with the publication reporting that Campbell’s family are awaiting results from a full autopsy examination carried out by the Multnomah County Medical Examiner.
Her cousin, Sarah Wessling, told the publication that before her death, Campbell had spent the day seeing patients at her practice, where she worked as a naturopathic physician, and then returned home to see her mother and aunt.
Wessling says that Campbell’s aunt found the actor collapsed on the bathroom floor and reportedly tried to revive her but was unable to do so.
Campbell had been complaining of congestion prior to her death, according to TMZ.
Campbell’s performance earned her a nomination for the Independent Spirit Award for Best Debut Performance.
She went on to appear in two episodes of the popular TV series Freaks and Geeks and starred as Julie Gold in the 2001 movie The Safety of Objects. Following her role in the 2002 films Junk and Dad’s Day, Campbell quit acting.
A GoFundMe page has been set up in order to raise funds to provide for Campbell’s 10-year-old son Oliver.
