Khloe Kardashian has defended herself following mounting criticism over efforts to remove an unedited photo of her from the internet.
An unfiltered snap of the 36-year-old was mistakenly shared online earlier this week and quickly went viral.
The reality TV star’s team then tried to have the photograph, showing her standing by a pool in a leopard-print bikini, removed from social media.
Responding to the controversy, Khloe posted a series of videos and a statement to her Instagram alongside the caption: “Yes I did a live to show you all this isn’t photoshopped,” with a tongue-out emoji.
The Keeping Up With The Kardashians star compared Instagram filters, good lighting and editing to makeup and having her nails done and hit out at criticism.
Sharing a video of herself wearing only bikini bottoms and hiding her chest with her arm Khloe said it was to prove her body was not photoshopped.
She wrote: “Hey guys, this is me and my body unretouched and unfiltered.
“But as someone who has struggled with body image her whole life, when someone takes a photo of you that isn’t flattering and in bad lighting or doesn’t capture your body the way it is after working so hard to get it to this point – and then shares it to the world – you should have every right to ask for it to not be shared – regardless of who you are.”
She revealed that she’d always felt pressure throughout her life and was often labelled as “the fat sister”.
Khloe added: “I am not perfect but I promise you that I try everyday to live my life as honestly as possible and with empathy and kindness.”
She continued: “It’s almost unbearable trying to live up to the impossible standards that the public have all set for me.”
She openly admitted that she loves a good filter and “an edit here and there” but compared it to getting her nails done or wearing a pair of heels and said she will continue to present herself the way she wants to be seen “unapologetically”.
“My body, my image and how I choose to look and what I want to share is my choice. It’s not for anyone to decide or judge what is acceptable or not anymore,” she said.
The mum-of-one finished her post by telling anyone who may feel pressure of not feeling perfect enough that she understands how they feel.
“We are all unique in our own way,” she wrote. “I have realized that we cannot continue to live life trying to fit into the perfect mold of what others have set for us. Just do you and make sure your heart is happy.”
She has received the full support of her family and followers.
Kendall Jenner replied to the post saying: “Yes! you beautiful, strong, HEALTHY queen,” followed by a heart emoji.
Kim Kardashian also spoke up for her sister and simply commented: “I love you Khloe.”
