Penny Lancaster has said it would not be worth the “misery” of giving up booze to help her weight battle.
Loose Women star Penny, 50, said she feels as if she has a “tyre sown into me” after struggling to get back in shape since having her second child 10 years ago.
She has been working out with a personal trainer three times a week and following a healthy eating plan.
Penny, wife of rocker Rod Steward, said: “Since I was 40 the calories weren’t being burned off. It just wasn’t happening for me.
“You sort of give yourself excuses, you say, ‘I’m over 40 now, I’ve had two children, but still into my fitness’.
“Suddenly the menopause happened. I turned 50, and I’m turning into someone else.
“You see yourself on TV and just think ‘oh my god, my jowls – I don’t have a jawline now, my chin goes into my neck.
“I literally feel like a tyre has been sown into me and I can’t get rid of it. Bingo wings. The one thing I’ve got are my legs. That’s what I have to hold on to.”
The former model recently qualified as a Special Police Constable and said this helped motivate her to get fit.
She told friend Gabby Logan on her podcast The Mid Point: “I had to train hard for the fitness test for the police.
“I don’t snack. I have salad at lunch with a piece of chicken, and then a bit of protein with more vegetables and more salad. I’m trying intermittent fasting, and I’m trying to eat minimal things and I’ve banned myself from chocolate.”
But she draws the line at giving up alcohol, saying: “You can’t tell me I can’t drink – that would be a life of misery!”
