Piers Morgan has accused Loose Women star Denise Welch of “abusing his mental health” after she hit out at him for his article about tennis star Naomi Osaka.
In response to Denise’s post calling him a “f-ing disgrace”, he wrote: “Tut tut. This isn’t very #BeKind is it… Nor is it good for my mental health to be abused like this.
“I hope Denise reflects on her foul-mouthed tirade and works harder on her anger management. I wish her well.”
Piers’ angry article slammed Osaka for withdrawing from the French Open for mental health reasons, branding her “narcissistic”.
The world number two announced last week that she did not want to do post-match interviews to “protect her mental health”.
Piers’ headline read: “Narcissistic Naomi’s cynical exploitation of mental health to silence the media is right from the Meghan and Harry playbook of wanting their press cake and eating it.”
Denise responded with a lengthy Twitter post, having been open about her own experience of depression in the past.
She wrote: “Piers Morgan publicly berating a brilliant young woman for prioritising her mental health AGAIN!!!
“Naomi Osaka has bravely withdrawn from the French Open after admitting to crippling depression since 2018 and that fear of talking to press until the end of the competition can bring on her anxiety.
“Anyone who has suffered depression and anxiety knows that life becomes unbearable and you will do anything to stop the pain.
“Piers also proves why so many people suffer in silence because of fear of being called ‘an arrogant narcissistic spoiled brat’. This man is a f…..g disgrace.”
The piece attracted criticism with many comparing it to his treatment of Meghan Markle, who said she felt suicidal while pregnant, to which Piers said “I don’t believe a word of it”.
Piers’ row over Meghan culminated in him quitting Good Morning Britain after Alex Beresford accused him of “trashing” Prince Harry’s wife Meghan because she ghosted him.
