Good Morning Britain host Piers Morgan has opened up on his trolling and death threats hell after a troll sent him terrifying messages on social media.

Piers reported the message to the police and they came and took a statement from him after an anonymous user on Instagram commented on a photo of Piers and his son Spencer, “promising” they would kill them both.

The chilling comment read: “Your a marked man, calling the police, big tech, or beefing up security isn’t going to stop us getting to you, this isn’t a threat Piers it’s a promise, your getting killed.”

Speaking alongside co host Susanna Reid about social media abuse, Piers said: “I had a death threat made to me last week on my eldest son’s Instagram, very direct, [they said] ‘This is not a promise, it’s going to happen, we are going to find you, we are gong to kill you.’

“But then also to my son, and I just thought, I am not having this, sorry.

“You can have legitimate discourse on Twitter, it can be punchy, you can hold public figures to account, you can say what you want and you can have opinions, but you’re not allowed to issue death threats to people.

“So I called the police, they came round and took it very seriously, so thank you to the police, they are investigating.

“I also spoke to Facebook, I know some top people there, because they own Instagram, and I said it’s not acceptable, they are cooperating as well, and I am going to go through the process and see what happens.

“Because I want to know, can you find these people? They have had their account deleted, but who is this person who thinks it’s acceptable to issue a death threat on Instagram to my son.

“My son is fine, he is used to the rough and tumble of public life vicariously through me, but there was a line that was crossed.”

Piers said he wanted these people to be punished for other people who are being abused on social media who do not have the platform he does.

He warned: “I am going to find out who did that, and they will be held to account, they will go to court if necessary and I will appear in court if necessary.

“That’s what I will do every time one of these morons think it’s okay, because it’s not okay, it’s not freedom of speech it’s a criminal threat to kill.

“Let’s see how brave they are when we track them down.

“We will find you, it may end up in a fine or public exposure and I hope it does, to hold these people to account.”
