Ruth and her husband Eamonn Holmes, who usually present This Morning on a Friday, were said to be devastated when they learnt they were being replaced by Alison and Dermot O’Leary.
And as Ruth was presenting Loose Women, she cut to the This Morning studio to explain what they had coming up on the show.
But eagle-eyed viewers quickly spotted that she did not even acknowledge Alison, who was standing in for Holly Willoughby, and spoke directly to Phil Schofield instead.
One viewer tweeted: “Ruth speaking to Phil and ignoring Alison on this morning. Awkward.”
Another cringed:” Alison waving to Ruth. Awkward #ThisMorning “.
“Slightly awkward that Alison is presenting #ThisMorning today and then Ruth pops up on loose women,” pointed out another.
Ruth recently made what appeared to be a thinly-veiled dig at Alison getting a hosting job after starting her career on reality TV.
Alison first rose to fame when she starred on Big Brother in 2002.
Ruth told Mirror Notebook: “We’ve put the work in. We didn’t do a reality show and get an overnight job on the telly. We’ve come up through the ranks.
“Eamonn was only 19 when he started out. And he was doing the teatime news in Belfast during The Troubles.
“It was heavy stuff. And he’s now got an OBE for services to broadcasting,” she added.
Ruth and Eamonn seemed to be blindsided by their sacking as just days before the switch-up was reported, Ruth gave an interview where she said she was not worried losing her job.
During a chat with new! magazine, Ruth said: “There’s always talk, I don’t know. Not that anybody’s told me.
“I think I am very good at what I do, and as long as they want me I’ll be there.
“I’ve been doing it a very long time and it seems we’ve been very popular, so I presume all those things will be taken into consideration.”
