Strictly Come Dancing professional Janette Manrara has announced that she will retire as a competitor on the BBC show.

However, Janette isn’t leaving the Strictly family by any means – she announced on The One Show on Thursday (June 10) that she is actually going to be replacing Zoe Ball alongside Rylan Clark-Neal as co-host of weeknight spin-off show It Takes Two later this year!

“One of my favourite parts of doing Strictly has always been to sit down on that couch and just chat away. it’s the most fun,” she told The One Show‘s Alex Jones. “I remember meeting Zoe, gosh that was eight years ago now when I did the first It Takes Two sit-down.

“[I was] thinking, ‘This is the coolest job ever. You get to sit down, talk about dancing, make people feel good and celebrate their successes on the show’.

“I did say, ‘One day I would love to do that’, and it’s here, here we are!”

Janette added that one aspect of taking the It Takes Two job was knowing she’d have to walk away from actively competing on Strictly.

“That’s been the hardest part of accepting this honour,” she admitted to The One Show presenters.

The 37-year-old joined Strictly back in series 11, and last year came runner-up in the finale along with her celebrity partner HRVY.

Ball announced in May that she would be leaving It Takes Two after nearly a decade as presenter in order to pursue some new “cha-cha challenges”.

She more recently backed Rylan Clark-Neal to take over the It Takes Two hosting job solo, but we imagine she’s equally thrilled Janette Manrara is getting the chance to shine as her replacement.

Strictly Come Dancing airs on BBC One. It’s due to return later in 2021.
