Ruth opened the link addressing Phillip Schofield saying: “Hi Phillip” but didn’t mention Alison – who stood alongside her co-star silently waving.

The moment came after it was revealed that Ruth and her husband Eamonn Holmes are being replaced on This Morning’s Friday edition by Alison and Dermot O’Leary.

Ruth was presenting Loose Women today, while Alison had been drafted in to host This Morning while Holly Willoughby had a day off.

Some tweeted that the 60-year-old telly veteran directed her remarks at Phillip instead of the newcomer.

The decision to replace the husband-and-wife team with Alison and Dermot is reported to have left the pair “furious”.

In an interview published in Notebook before news of ITV’s shake-up broke, Ruth told how she grafted to get the role that she’s had for the last 14 years.

She said: “We’ve put the work in. We didn’t do a reality show and get an overnight job on the telly. We’ve come up through the ranks.

“Eamonn was only 19 when he started out. And he was doing the teatime news in Belfast during The Troubles.”
