Charli D’Amelio has lost more than 950,000 TikTok followers after posting a ‘rude’ video to her account.
The 16-year-old and her sister Dixie, 19, received a huge backlash from fans who were not impressed with the siblings’ treatment of their personal chef. And they seem to have voted with their feet.
According to reports, Charli had 99.5 million followers as of Wednesday (18 November) evening, however, this has since fallen to 98.5 million.
Dixie also seems to have lost around 100,000 fans, with her following falling from 43.9m to 43.8m.
In the clip, the pair can be seen making vomiting faces at the food being prepared by Aaron May, with Dixie even running outside at one point to throw up.
You can watch it below – the section that caused the most controversy is around the 6 minute 40 seconds mark:
Responding to the outrage, Dixie said people should know the full story before jumping to conclusions.
In a video, she said: “My family and I have been working with Chef Aaron May for a couple of months now, working on content for our channel and working on content for his channel, and [we’ve] made an amazing friendship.
“Before I even get into anything, I’m so grateful for every single person that follows me, every single person I care about, every single person I work with, every single person who works with me because I’m just so grateful for all of the opportunities I’ve had.”
She went on to say that the video doesn’t include everything, such as the part where Aaron and her team tried to get her to eat a snail, despite knowing she’s quite picky when it comes to food.
She added: “My team knows I throw up a lot. I throw up at the smell, the thought, or the taste of anything. So, when they saw the snails, they were like, ‘Oh, let’s get her and try to see if we can get a reaction out of her’.
“I love [our] chef, and I would never disrespect him in any way.”
Charli, meanwhile, posted a tearful video to Instagram Live, saying: “I feel like it was all just one huge misunderstanding and I’m sorry, but I think it’s become completely blown out of proportion.
“I’m genuinely sorry, but it wasn’t something where I truly meant to be hurtful or put anyone down.
“I was just trying to crack and joke and be sarcastic, and if that’s not what you guys want then that’s fine.”
The video was part of their Dinner with the D’Amelios series which recently launched on their YouTube channel.
Shortly after it was shared, fans were quick to share their disappointment at the sisters’ behaviour.
One person said: “Dixie can’t be more immature she can’t appreciate she’s got a private chef, and Charli want chicken nuggets like that’s so ungrateful.”
Another commented: “The girls are so disrespectful Dixie literally threw up in front of the chef and they act like the food is disgusting like they live in a mansion with a literal chef not everyone has that luxury and they probably aren’t even that grateful for it. Like I love the girls but the way they act is miserable.”
